Profoundly Isolated Emotionally?

I think it's due to my intellect. I find it hard to connect with people on a mental level because I must simplify everything I say in order for it to be construed by the average person.

Bear in mind that I could read competently before age three, and that as a preadolescent in university I was correcting mistakes made by my professors.

I ended up taking an I.Q test and was later told that only about two dozen people had ever scored as high as I did.

Consider that my intellect is as far above that of the average professor as the average professor's intellect is above that of someone with mental retardation.

What do think I should do?

It's really super that you're brilliant and all, but here's the thing: even in this little message, you came across to me as a pretty pompous and exacting person.

Just because you can correct people doesn't mean you should. Just because you can't use uncommon vocabulary words with everyone and have to simplify things doesn't mean that they are inferior.

Maybe you truly don't believe you are superior, but you probably come across that way to others.

My advice to you: get over yourself, or find a partner of near-equal intellect to talk quantum physics with. Oh yes, and try ending your sentences with prepositions sometime. It feels good.

Yeah,, you should take drugs and smack yourself in the head so you can be as dumb as everybody else.. good luck

seriously

Well, the flippant answer is: use your great intellect to construct your own solution. Why would you seek help on Yahoo Answers since most of us are likely your intellectual "inferior"?

Is your profound isolation troubling to you? I'm not so sure it is. It sounds by your bragging that you enjoy being intellectually superior.

If you are as much of a braggart in your "real" life, no wonder you are socially isolated. People don't like to spend time with people who make them feel inferior. If you cannot realize that obvious statement on your own, then you are really not as smart as you think you are. Don't forget that there are many different kinds of intelligence, and while you may have a high I.Q., your E.Q. seems equivalent to that of someone with mental retardation, if I may paraphrase you. Humble yourself, and you will find more people who want to socialize with you.

First of all, get off your high horse and get over yourself! Then, seek persons with like minds. I realize that there are only a few, but since you're so far above others in intelligence, you'll probably have to settle for a smaller group of friends etc.

My father is this way as well and, to a far lesser degree, so am I. Don't worry, you will gain acquaintances and freinds through your interests. There is a very fine and clear analogy on this topic in a segment of a film named New York Stories; the segment is called Life Without Zoe. Incidentally, I consider Life Without Zoe to be my favorite movie.

P.S. I know it's obvious, but don't try to work your I.Q into every conversation as this is known to be the sign of a fool.

Jeremy;
Emotional isolation is described as having no one to confide in. I t seems to me that you are able to function probably in a professional and maybe in a network environment. It seems to be that maybe the issue is in reality a lack of social skill, physical limitations and the inability to nurture yourself.

Your focus should be on how to interact with those of us who are mediocre....and with flawed intelligence by making adjustments in your perception of self. Remember the way veiw our surroundings is the way our surroundings view us in return....
