Mental Health ...?

I am BiPolar, ADD, and have OCD, and Depression ... how would i go about tellin people this with out them being freaked out? ... and afraid of me? ... i did the mistake of not tellin someone special to me (at the time) and then one day i freaked out on him and now he wont talk to me ... i dont want to do that again ... what should i do? ...

I have body dysmorphic disorder so i too suffer from OCD and depression. Getting your mental health out in the open with help with your recovery, however, you have to be careful about who you tell. And before you tell anyone, be sure you completely understand what you have, and what symptoms may prevent you from being close to certain people. It will be much easier to break the news if you are calm and collected. Begin telling those who already love you. They have already accepted you for you, and telling them will only help them shed some light on why you act the way you do. If they love you, they will continue to embrace the good and the bad. If they stop talking to you or change their demeanor around you, then you need to cut off contact with them because they will only make you feel worse about yourself. Those who really care for you will want to stay no matter how many times you freak out on them. If you find that someone is afraid of you, take it as a compliment. People are threatened by what they don't understand, and be happy that you aren't a plain jane. You will have to overcome more obstacles than most people, but you will be a much stronger person than they could ever hope to be. You will suffer greatly, but you will have a more intense and worth while human experience.

Just be completely honest with whom ever you tell. Don't let them think that you are someone your not. If they stick around, they are a true friend. They will help you get through the hard and bad times. If they turn and run, they really were not the friend that they claimed to be. Hang in there and be honest!!!

How soon do you tell the men in your life what is going on with you? Are you maybe saying something to soon?

My best advice for people that have some personality disorders is to take things slow. A man that is attracted to you on a intimate level as well as a FRIENDSHIP level is more likely to stick it out for the long haul. If you are meeting people, and taking it to fast and telling them before you have established a trust between you then most men/woman are going to walk away from someone rather quickly. You have to give it time.

I think you need to be honest about it. You will be surprised to find that people will be understanding. To hell with those who are not, who needs friends like that? Sometimes, people will also be uncomfortable with it, but that's just human nature.

Obviously, you don't need to tell everyone you meet at random. Just tell those who are special to you, and who you want to keep close. Cheers, and good luck.

Only tell those that truly "need to know"
I'm still ADD.

In my opinion you should first focus on being treated by a psychiatrist than telling people about your condition. Just be cooperative with mental health providers and keep optimistic about the results. Then read and keep in mind what hockey mom told you!
