How do you advocate for mental health rights without be in the mental health field?

i think most of the rules that mental health workers have to follow are unhuman.mandated reporting of drug use that will not leed to an overdose,i will not do.the sexual stuff like the mandated reporting of that i would though.like i think someone going rape someone that i will do anyway.if i known someone for over certain amount of time.they either are a friend or not.i am not wasting my time be a worker in the mental health as a job if its not.boundarys they call it in that field, that means you are not supposed to have dealings with a client outside of work, even if they invite you and you want to.that is bs and not worth it to me.second rate is what you are telling someone thats not M R ,AND I WILL NOT DO THAT EVEN IF YOU PAY ME!i have my own mental problems ,to do that makes me a sellout,in my own words.but am sick of people with mental problems tell me that what i should be doing, when i can't mental health fields way.being human is more importend to me! ideas

I DON'T THINK ANY OF THE PROFESSIONALS ARE DOING IT RIGHT I SEE TO MANY OF THEIR CLIENTS SCREWED WITH BY THE PROS,EXPELL I AM NOT TAKING ANY MED UNLESS I TALK WITH THE DOC FIRST,GET YOU WRAPPED IN CLOTH THAT YOU CAN NOT BREATH IN,I THINK ITS REASONABLE TO TALK TO THE DOCTOR FIRST.THE BOAT NEEDS TO BE ROCKED.AND I HAVE HEARD TONS OF THESE STORYS FROM NONE VIOLENT PEOPLE ON OR OFF MEDS,QOATE FROM THE MENTAL HEALTH FIELD CASE WORKER ,I DON'T KNOW WHAT MY JOB IS,SHALL I GO ON.

Hum.

In Australia, we are mandatory reporters but we don't have to report casual drug use, only something that we feel could cause serious damage to themself or others.
We can also report things and make a recommendation that there be no further intervention other than what we are doing. This is called a 'registration of concern'

I'm glad you don't want to be a mental health worker. If you can't understand why people shouldn't be friends with their clients, I think you would make a fairly damaging counselor.

You can work as a mental health advocate or as a group leader in a support group. I know someone who works as a secretary for a support service. He runs it himself, providing a huge amount of support for the users of the service and is a sufferer himself. He works in mental health and makes a real difference, but he is not offically a mental health worker, although he is definotely a mental health advocate!

If we leave the treating of patients to the professionals, what do we do when the professionals become patients? As for me, I tell my wife: "Don't put me up so high, I am afraid of heights!" We are only human and make mistakes when we try to help people, but we at least try. Report It

Be happy you have a clean job and don't rock the boat. You can help in little ways that mean a lot. Stay with it and never say 'SHIP'.

Yes, but probably won't like my answer. Leave the treating of patients to the professionals
