Mental health assesment?

what do they do in mental health assesment? do they just ASK u questions and then think by what u answered that u suffer from something?? are they that stupid?

The doctor or the Mental Health Team are trained in recognizing subtle signs of depression or other mental health condition and will ask question or tests such as the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, the Beck Depression Inventory, or the Geriatric Depression Scale can be used to evaluate your symptoms, depending on the age of the person and the way they have presented to the clinic.

These test take into consideration how well you are able to think, reason, and remember (cognitive function). And if your able to carry out regular daily activities, such as eating, dressing, shopping, self personal care or banking etc.
This will include your over all appearance, e.g are you clean, dirty or in different. Ask if your sleeping or not, do you have any interest in social activities, going to work etc, changes in appetite eating or not eating and have you lost weight, are you taking or using any forms of drugs or alcohol, and if you are cooperative or non compliant.

They will even ask if you have suicidal thoughts, and if so how would you "do it".

Family members or friends (if available) will be asked if they have noticed any changes in behaviour, appetite personal care, and risking taking behaviours such as drugs & alcohol and so forth.

Sometimes a more extensive mental health test, such as the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, will be used to get a clearer picture of the persons condition or disorder.

If someone is deemed to be a danger to him/herself and those around them they will be admitted to hospital, and the person is kept under observation, maybe even given medication to calm and reduce anxiety, until they have a clearer picture of the persons condition.

It depends who it's for. If it's your GP they will throw anti-depressants at you to get you out the surgery. If it's DSS interview, they will ask you all sorts of silly questions

Nah, they can probably judge you a lot better than what you think. What you speak isn't necessarily what you communicate.

you probably get admitted to a mental health hospital first and they record everything about you really during 6 weeks or more. they look at how you act, what you do, what you say and they give diagnosis in the end, but this is from one hospital i know

No don't think like that. In Mental health assesment they ask you question on the basis of your fundamental & normal Human behaviour & then check how your Brain nerves react to those questions. It's like an exam in which result is in your hand.

They will do a mini psychological test, and ask a heap of questions about how your coping with your normal daily routine, such as eating normally, sleeping etc.

no,that's not it. in mental health assessment, they would analyze not only your answers from the questions given but they would also look the way you act/behave, the way you answer these questions, your memory, the way you express yourself, etc. because remember that every action has its meaning and is meeting the needs of the doer no matter how meaningless it could be to others, o they would not only base their assessment from your answers but also your overall picture.

Yes, they just ask questions. or there are some who just have a normal conversation, or pretend to have one.
it's not only what you say, but also how you say. it's the way it matches or not the non-verbal stuff. it's how you open the door, how you introduce yourself, how you behave and look. it's what they've got in the referal and in the previous medical notes.
they are not that stupid. some of them spent years in training and have years and years of experience, and most of them have this 'six sense' a.k.a. 'intuition'.
