??? about the compulsory mental health act?

I'm sectioned under the mental health act and next week I am meant to see my psychiatrist but I will be away and I tried to tell them at the mental health clinic and they got all legalistic with me about having a warrant out for my arrest!

My dad is having surgery and thats why I will be away. I told them that but they showed little sympathy!

I am bi-polar and my mood is currently stable and there is no risk factor right now. Missing one doctors visit is not a big deal in my opinion.

Has anyone else been in this situation and how did you cope.

I still plan to visit my father - which is three hours away from where I live and I will be staying with him for one week.

I live in New Zealand and I got sectioned when I went into a manic phase with by bi-polar some months back.

The section means I can live at home and work in the community but I have to have compulsory treatment through the mental health. But as people with bi-polar know, we have long periods of well times and right now I am well. But because I am relatively new on section - four months - they are holding me to my appointments!

Wow, I didn't realize things had gone that far in New Zealand. Personally, I think you should do whatever is in your power to disconnect from psychiatrists completely.

Psychiatrists freely admit that:
1) There is no science to what they do; there are no tests to support any diagnosis they make.
2) They cannot cure any patients.

(The proof of this is in my source; actual psychiatrists are asked about these subjects.)

Okay, go to this site:
http://www.cchr.org/
and click "contact us". You could browse around a bit first if you want. Tell them what the situation is, and select "New Zealand" as the office to contact, and I guarantee you will get help.

That doesn't sound right. Those people are very insensitive & heartless. I agree that missing 1 psych appt. won't hurt, & you should always have the right or opportunity to reschedule the appointment. The only way you'd have a warrant out for your arrest for not seeing the doctor is if the judge court-ordered it. Is there any way you can set the psych appt. @ a later date or when you get back from helping your dad out?

Why are you legally compelled to see a psychiatrist? Nothing personal, just where (as in city) and how (court order) is this compulsory?
I'm trying to get a handle on your problem, but a LOT more information is necessary.

If you are recieving $ for a mental disability, you may be required to meet scheduled treatment.
Try to reschedule your appointment for a earlier time or ask if you can meet with a nurse.
Call your mental health board and ask for help with the situation.

If there is no present risk, I'm not sure how they can keep you sectioned- maybe their view is that there is a present risk?

Ask about bringing your appointment forward.
