Mental Health and work attitude.?

I have suffered from depression for about 20 or so years. My employer knew about it when they offered me the job. This year has been very bad for me, so I have had quite a bit of time off with it.
With the new disability act in place, and with it covering mental health, does anyone know if I can be sacked if things don't improve soon?

Not as long as you have declared it on your Occupational Health form then they would be skating on thin ice.

Are you not taking medication? There is so much help for depression now. It is a treatable condition.

they can pay you off if your on the sick to much, but they cant sack you.

The place where I worked had a woman who'd suffered for years with depression and they were totally unsympathetic towards her counselling in company time etc. Then one day when she was on holiday they took her PC away for inspection! and the next thing was she was sacked on a handbook technicality! BE careful they find a way

If you miss too much time without agreement then evenyually you can be dismissed. Take advice from your union rep. If you are not in a union then join one ASAP.

Probably best to check your agency's policy.

sorry that you are having a bad year and I'm not being unsympathetic lots of us have a bad time mentally and physically and bad family problem ...like me but would not expect my employer to keep on making or accepting apologies for your or my health to be fair even if they knew you had these problems speak to your jobcentre plus they are very sympathetic and will help and give advice honest their just people like you and me better than hoping the problem will go away positive action go for it

Attend some yoga sessions like the art of living. Do meditation often, bcoz that will definitely help you feel relieved. Consult a doc or a consultant who can help you out of the depression. Try to bring cheers to your own self. Hope you'd get well soon.
