Menopause at 22? Please tell me it's not possible!?

I went to the ER on Sunday because I was having trouble breathing and even though nothing was found wrong I was told to keep an eye on myself for the next couple of days.

I called my Mom, a registered nurse, and told her my symptoms.
Shortness of breath, night sweats, hot flashes, major temperature fluctuation, dizziness...

Her first response was, "Are you sure you're not going through menopause?"

She might as well have said I had brain cancer!

I'm only 22! I have no kids and my husband and I want them very badly.

I've been trying to get a hold of my doctor to schedule an appointment but he's not available and I'm SOO freaked out I'm at the point of tears. Can menopause happen in someone so young, and if so, does that mean I can't get pregnant? Please help!

My mother had six children and didn't start menopause till her forties. None of my grandmothers had early menopause.

One more symptom I forgot to mention: sore muscles, neck and back pain.

My temperature has been getting so low according to research on the web I should be in mild hypothermia! My temperature has been between 94 and 95 degrees.

My mother's other explanations were hypothyroidism, anxiety attacks, and even a tumor in my hypothalamus (the area of the brain that controls things like temperature and sleep).

So, yeah, if I wasn't having anxiety attacks before I'm darn near them now!!

i dont think it is posssible for menapause at 22.
However,,, you could be suffering from a hormonal imbalnce or some other female problems.
Make an appointment with your gyno.

Check out panic attacks. My friend has them and she gets hot and dizzy, etc.

I've heard of cases that menopause can occur faster if you've developed at an earlier age, but at 22 I highly doubt it. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

I've heard it's possible but I seriously doubt it. Those all can be symptoms of panic attacts also. See your ob/gyn and then if they find nothing, see a counselor. It more likely a panic attack. They can be brought on by anything. My friend gets them all the time.

Try not to worry about this. There are other things that could be causing your symptoms (any common virus, an attack of "nerves"). Your mother might just have been kidding you, and you took it too seriously. Do see your doctor as soon as you can for a thorough check-up.

this is serious going to a doctor was a good choice you need to see more than one i know one woman who went threw this but it was not menopause you might just be under a lot of stress see a different doctor

Call your mother back. She was kidding. If you are really worried go see your gynecologist. You should be seeing one annually in any case.

I'm sure it's possible for women to go through an early menopause, but really, I think it's very unlikely. You could have some hormone fluctuation for some reason that could cause some of those symptoms.

I had a total hysterectomy at 29 which put me into surgical menopause which has the most symptoms since it happens all at once and not gradually. While I did have hot flashes and night sweats, I've never experienced shortness of breath or dizzyness.

Those symptoms also sound to me like they could be panic or anxiety attacks, which I also have.

I definitely would speak to your doctor as soon as you can.

You are born with the amount of eggs you have so having 6 pregnancies puts of menopause by nine months.....that is 54 months.....so if they are correct and you tend to take after mothers in this area it seems impossible.
I hope you do go to doc, this could be something completely unrelated to periods......but an underlying cause.....don't worry till you do get to the dr....make note of all your symptoms.....I hate to ask the obvious but maybe you already are pregnant!!!!..........I was on the pill for 3 years and got pregnant......he was fine and so am I!!! Hang in there Sweetie. YES, it IS possible. It happened to my best friend at the SAME age...22!

You MUST get yourself to a fertility specialist ASAP!! They can freeze your eggs for future babies you may want to have. My friend did not do this because she did not know what has happening to her. She did have three kids, but had to use donor eggs.

Sadly, premature menopause CAN happen. My sister went through the process and was completely post-menopausal by the time she was 24.

However...a ray of light! She DID get pregnant using fertility drugs at the age of 27. So please don't despair. See your doctor as soon as you can and consider parenthood sooner than later.

Calm yourself girl,
don't jump the gun with your emotions and fears. You don't KNOW menopause is the reason for your symptoms. If it were, your case would be very rare, indeed. If you can't get in to see your Dr., consider seeing one of his associates, or an OB/GYN.
I have had several children, and, believe me, some of the craziest pregnancy symptoms. Don't give-up on your dreams!

It might be premature ovarian failure. Hon, just go to the doctor. They can test you and make sure. Check it out at mayoclinic.com under women's health.
