Meningitis and after effects of brain function ?

I had meningitis when I was (5 months) pregnant with my second child. All came out fine, myself, my daughter (she's now 17 yrs). Any knowledge of any residual effects that my having meningitis might have had on me? I'm only asking because a person just posted an answer to an I.Q. question here a moment ago. Any insights ?

it all depends on what type of meningitis & the extent of damage at that time.
its not as simple or straight forward as you describe it
it depends whether the meningitis was bacterila or viral or drug induced or was it just a complication of hypertension (pre-eclampsia)?or what is called HELP syndrome?
if viral what kind of virus
was it after all realy meningitis or some other closely related neurological condition
the worse case scenario will be a Herpes Simplex Meningo-encephalitis affecting the temporal lobe causing severe neurological damage affecting the memory & the I.Q.
Believe me when it comes to the diagnosis of neurological condition , it may prove to be very hard, so as predicting consequences.

I don't know but it was 17 years ago so if nothin's bothering you....why worry?

Besides meningitis affects the spinal cord, not the brain. More reason not to worry.

Mennigitis is an infection of the menniges, one of the linings of the brain and spinal cord. There could be lasting effects of that infection, but I'm sure you would have noticed them by now. My wife's cousin recovered from that about a year ago. He's not the same person as he was before. He had went into a comatose state for a several days and when he became conscious again, he actually had to learn to walk and talk again. Now he's fully functional, no physical problems, can speak normally, but his personality is totally different. Hope I've helped you out. Best of luck to you and Merry Christmas.
