I recieved the meningitis vaccine yesterday and today I'm incredibly achey?

I received the meningitis vaccine yesterday and today I'm incredibly achy. Terrible headache, and of course the site of injection still aches, but I'd expect that. Is it possible to get flu-like symptoms or for that matter meningitis-like after a vaccine? I'm certainly no hypochondriac, so whatever this is, it's not all in my head.

It is quite common for people to experience body aches and/or flu like symptoms following vaccinations for around 24 to 48 hours following the injection.
In your cause you have been exposed to a controlled small amount of mennigitis and your body is simply reacting to that in a normal way. It is usually a good sign as it means your body is producing anti bodies to mennigitis and hence generating immunity.

My daughter had the same symptoms for 2-3 days after the vaccine. She just took some ibuprofen and was better soon. If you still feel bad after a few days, call your doctor.

Didn't know they had a meningitis vaccine, good to know, anyway, vaccines work by injecting a teensy bit of a virus into your system so that your system will build up an immunity to it. Often people will feel a little ill for a day or two after having an immunisation shot. Nothing to worry about. Hope you feel better soon :)

a vaccine is actually enjecting a little bit of the virus into your body so you can build up anti bodies for it. So yes it is very common for you to have meninngitis like symptoms from the vaccine! just wait it out, it will be ok. If you start running a fever that is abnormally high or if it lasts more then 2 days call a doctor (they should have told you all these things when you recieved this shot)

The answers above were right on, this is normal for many people. Your body has recognized an invader and is building up the necessary antibodies. As someone who has had Meningitis twice, you did the right thing to get the vaccine. Do not doubt that for a minute. Now, remember that the vaccine is only good for about 5 years, so if you're in a high risk group (college age, living in dorms, elderly, or under 5) then get the vaccine again.
