Can you get meningitis from you room?

i live with 3 other guys on an army base and my roommate contracted meningitis, or at least the symptoms. i havent read anywere where meningitis can be contracted from your living quarters,

depends what type of meningitis there are 3 types and one type is very contagious

Any bacteria or virus has the potential to cause meningitis.

Bacterial meningitis is caused by several different types of germs which live naturally at the back of the nose and throat and can be spread by close prolonged contact, coughing, sneezing and kissing.

In the UK the most common cause of bacterial meningitis is infection with the meningococcal or pneumococcal bacteria, but Hib, TB, E.Coli, and Group B streptococcal bacteria can also cause meningitis.

Viral meningitis may be caused by viruses such as coxsackie, herpes simplex, mumps, the varicella zoster virus of chickenpox and shingles, poliovirus, echoviruses (including enterovisuses). Germs can be spread through coughing, sneezing, poor hygiene or sewage polluted water.

Meningitis can also be a feature of other diseases, including Lyme disease, Leptospirosis, Typhus, Tuberculosis and other infections.

Not from your room but from the occupants who share your quarters. there are different causes of meningitis or inflammation of the meninges or the covering of the brain. It can be viral, bacterial, TB, etc. Meningitis usually is a sequelae of a respiratory tract illness which was untreated.

Sometimes if your living space is untidy or unsanitary, you may have a higher risk for contracting meningitis, because the bacteria or viruses that cause the disease are found in spoiled food, dried urine, feces, etc. Being in the army, it is doubtful that your living space is that bad, and he could have caught it from anything, like hikes in the woods, mosquito bite, or sex with a carrier.
