Meningitis and consequences?

Does meningitis leave any problems later on? Do people who sufferred from this illness have any disorders in behaviour or memory problems?
Respectfully,

Without a doubt! It can cause severe damage later on. I had Bacterial Menengitis in 2003 and almost died. Even though I had no paralysis or g.green, I have suffered from severe migraines ever since. For the first year, it was like I was still sick. I do not think that it can cause behavioral problems although it can definitely cause memory problems. As far as I am aware though, these things are present immediately after treatment, they don't just show up several years later. Although, it is a proven fact that bacterial menengitis is not treated thouroughly alot of the time, leaving bacteria eating away at peoples brain for years later. I had a second spinal tap the next year to be sure. Also, anytime you have a blood brain breaching illness it puts you at risk for other disorders, like MS.

Yes it can leave problems later on.
It can cause deafness, paralysis, blindness, mental retardation, etc....

My son had it at 3 mos. old. There are 2 kinds--viral and bacterial. The bacterial is the kind that has a high percentage of permanent damage (i.e. deafness, retardation). My son had viral and recovered with no ill effects--in fact, he's one of my smartest kids!

I had meningitis 13-14 years ago so far I have no problems I have a terrible memory but I don't know if it has anything to do with the Meningitis.

My daughter Emilee is recovering from Bacterial Meningitis. The only problem that we've seen is that she is still having severe headaches. Hopefully those will subside with time. Her neurosurgeon and infectious disease doctors have both said that eventually the headaches will go away, but there is nothing we can do except to keep giving her pain medicine to keep them bearable.
