Anyone suffered from Meniere's Disease?

I suffered for ten years and finally a surgeon put a shunt in my inner ear. What is a shunt and how does it work? No problems since. My fear is will I get it in my other ear?

Wow! Susan sounds like a doctor. I don't know about all that but I have lived with Meniere's Disease since 1990 but was not diagnosed until 1995. I have not had any surgery done yet but found some relief from pressure build up in my ears by using Diamox 500mg 3xs a day, which is prescribed to me by the Neurologist I am seeing. You have an even chance of not getting it in your other ear, says my ENT..... so I wish you wellness friend.

Glad to hear that your shunt was successful. Meniere's can be a very miserable condition to have. If you get it in your other ear, at least you know what the solution is. I hope you have insurance!
Your shunt procedure involved exposing your endolymphatic sac, which needed decompression to cure your Meniere's. A hole was made in the sac, and a tube (shunt) was inserted in the hole. The shunt leads to one of two fluid-filled spaces in your head: subarachnoid space or mastoid space. Excess pressure in your endolymphatic sac will immediately drain out, instead of affecting your inner ear and sense of balance and hearing.
