What medical advice would you give for these symptons?

My mam has been ill for a couple of years now, its not constant but every few months it will hit it. She gets severe head aches and dizziness to the point where she cant take a single step without toppling over and the pain in her head has drove her to be physically sick. She also gets ringing in her ears. She has been for numerous scans but the doctors are extremely uninterested and unhelpful. Obviously we are concerned about her and want to sort this out as soon as possible. At first she was diagnosed as having meniere's disease or a form of that and was given medication, unfortunately it didnt work and the doctors admitted this was a wrong diagnosis. Has anyone else experienced these symptons before? If so, how were they resolved? Or does anyone with a medical background have any advice for us?
Thank you

The amount of information given here makes it very hard to diagnose this. From what you have described it sounds like the problem could be food allergy, weak adrenal glands, and possibly pour digestion. If your mam is over 40, it could be hormone imbalance (and this could be related to food allergy). The doctors are not interested because they probably have no clue and do not want to be embarrassed or go to the trouble of figuring the problem out in a few minutes so it is not worth their time. They figure if they can't figure something out in a few minutes, they are losing money.

I would like to try and figure this one out, but need more information. E-mail me and give more details.

Please email me, so I can help you get some answers as I suffered from the same symptoms. Report It

where any of the scans done one her head=if so ,ask the Dr to make an appointment for your Mom to get an MRI=It will show any masses that a scan would skip==If this Dr still seems uninterested ,get a second opinion=good luck with this and hopefully your Mom will get the attention she needs

have you thought of taking her to a GOOD neuroligist? they will take all sorts of tests to determine just what she has. it does sound like meniers syndrome because my niece has it.if you dont get satifaction from one doctor get a second opinion, its that simple! why let this woman suffer, and you worry, dont stop until you find the cause of her distress. m m

Has she been to see a neurologist? Forget the average family physician. It could be many many things, from severe migraines, to high blood pressure, etc. A specialist needs to be consulted. Since these attacks only occur every few months, they will probably ask to be as detailed in journaling what foods were eaten, medications, to minute symptoms of blurred vision a couple weeks before, to unsteady gait, blood pressure, stress, etc. It may take a bit, until she is actually experiencing an episode to determine what is happening.

I would suggest that she have her inner ears examined. When the inner ear is infected, the head hurts, balance is really off, and because balance is off, the stomach reacts badly, too.

Jill how is your moms hearing?

I have menieres disease and it took literally YEARS for the doctors to be able to accurately diagnose it. Sadly my symptoms didn't improve until my ear reached "burn out". But things have changed for menieres patients since I was diagnosed . It is now known that many cases of menieres disease are actually autoimmune responses to environmental allergens that we are exposed to.

Keep looking for a diagnosis but in the mean time suggest that she also be checked for allergies. She may also be experiencing these problems from mold exposure in her environment. Its something most people don't even think about.
