Melanoma ????

I have recently watched a show about melanoma, and now of coarse am paranoid. I do have a mole that is not perfectly round and there is an eensie spot where it might look a little darker. It has not grown or changed shape, I actually asked the derm about it around 7 years ago but he wasnt concerned. Then I have something that looks like a birth mark (its not one) but is not raised its like a freckle except I think it has got larger in the past year I would say it is about the diameter of a large mole ,but the color is so light I cant tell much from it. I am calling the derm tommorrow, but in the mean time. What is the stats on melanoma? how fast could they find out if it is melanoma?

A qualified dermatologist should be able to say either fine or suspicious on examination.

If suspicious, then you may need a biopsy done.

Often if they are removing the tissue for biopsy anyway, they remove the whole thing.

I have had several moles removed for testing and they each came back clear for cancer. This was done under local anesthetic in the Dr's rooms and only took about 15 minutes, with biopsy results available by the time the stitches were due to come out.
