What is the percentage rate of melanoma returning?

I was diagnosed with early stage malignant melanoma two years ago. I also had a C125 test come back elevated to which I had a complete hysterectomy. What I really want to know is....can melanoma come back after it has been successfully removed? And what should I be watching for as warning signs? Thanking you in advance for your answer I am looking forward to reading it.

Are you seeing a dermatologist and also an oncologist at regular intervals for checkups? If not, you should be. You need to see a dermatologist at least every six months for the first five years post melanoma diagnosis. You need to see an oncologist at least yearly for a full checkup.

Sure a melanoma can come back. Your risk depends on the original staging and Clark level. Your post surgery pathology report should give you this information. You can ask your Dr for a copy of the pathology report.

Presidential candidate John McCain has had two bouts of melanoma and was successfully treated each time due to quick diagnosis and treatment. You need to follow his example and not take this issue lightly. If you do not have health insurance then try and make arrangements to finance your Dr appts. until you can find a job with medical insurance. Watch the paper and TV for offers of free skin cancer checks and take advantage of these. Even more important, if any new mole or skin lesion looks odd or starts growing or bleeding then see a dermatologist ASAP.
good luck with this
