Melanoma in women?

why is melanoma found more often in women then in men? and i read that women get cancer in the back of their legs, and in men it is found usually on the back. Also, why does getting a sunburn increase the likelyhood of getting melanoma?

oh ok, so actually it is found more frequently in men. thank you!

That is odd, I had heard melanoma is found LESS commonly in women then men- they think its due to the protective effect of oestrogen. About 7,000 more men than women get diagnosed with melanomas each year. Sunburn increases the likelihood of all skin cancers because it causes DNA damage and cancers are caused by faults with your DNA that basically stop cells from dying.
