I think I might have melanoma, HELP? |
I have very fair skin and I have a ton of freckles. And a lot of moles. But i am so afraid that i have melanoma because my Uncle died of it. I read about melanoma, but i am not positive that i have it. Especially since i am so young (i am only 14). But is it possible to be young and get melanoma. I heard that if you have more then 20 moles then it is likely that you have melanoma, and i have 27. I am so confused and scarred, Please Help! If you have any moles at all, you should be seen by a dermatologist. All moles are at risk for becoming cancerous, especially large ones. Definitely talk to your parents about getting an appointment just in case. If you can get some moles removed now before they could possibly get bad, that would be good. just do some on-line research about melanoma, educate yourself, and see a dermatologist, Make an appointment with your family doctor, and he/she will check your whole body for moles and remove any that look suspicious. Mole removal isn't painful because they numb you. Then they send the mole away to be biopsied and they let you know what the results are. If any of your moles are cancerous, they probably will only take a little more of the area around where the mole was to make sure they got all of the cancerous tissue. If you do have melanoma, it would be early enough that it hasn't spread to other parts of your body, and you wouldn't need to have chemo or anything. wuts melanoma? i hope u feel better I doubt you have melanoma - but it's wise to be cautious of all the moles you have - if they change or any new ones show up. i had melanoma. i was diagnosed at age 26 and only had 3 moles. you are at a higher risk, but having moles doesnt mean you have melanoma. go to a melanoma website and do a self exam, see a dermatologist and wear sunscreen. that is all you can do. good luck sweetie! andps, if caught early it is super treatable, so stay on top of self exams! |
