Melanoma death, what is it like ? How can I search this ?

If a person is diagnosed with an advanced stage of melanoma and decides to not have treatment, what is the death like ? Every sight I have checked never says what the death is like ?

Melanoma is a cancer in melanocytes, which are the cells which give your skin pigment. It is highly metastatic (meaning it spreads to organs) and, irregardless of the previous poster's (Ghandi's) comments/beliefs, it is resistant to chemotherapy. The best treatment for an advanced melonaoma is supplementing the immune system, but, unfortunately, there is no known way (as is the way with cancers) to stop it or remiss it, just ways to slow it.

As it is a metastic disease, it can spread to multiple organs, presenting various symptoms. To go without treatment for prolonging of life is one thing, and in many cases is understandable - but depending on where the cancer has spread and what organs are effected there may be pain.

As tumours grow, they impede the functioning of organs in the immediate area. Many of these organs have pain fibres in them to warn us of damage. If a patient has such tumours which are causing pain, the pain can be constant, severe and deep - it may well be worth looking towards specific medications to supress it.

Keep in mind, this is not prolonging life, nor will it have the detrimental effects of chemotherapy - if the sufferer has 6 months to live and is experiencing pain, this may supress the pain for those 6 months and, potentially, allow them to be more aware, comprehensive, understanding and relaxed as they may be free of the associated suffering.

I'd advise, if interested in further research, you check the net for a local support group and contact a council. He/she should be able to fill you in on some details and perhaps put you in contact with people dealing with, or families who have experienced the situation.

google it is probably the best option.
there'll definatly be something on it

horrible. it attacks you slowly killing you from inside and the only way of prolonging yhour life is chemo therapy which sometimes helps you survive.. only tao have the cancer return in most cases.
Melanoma is a skin cancer that can spread throughout your entire body and into your organs. at which stage it is terminal. while it is external it is treatable by cutting out the section of the tissue around and under the mole.
Horrible thing to have.

Usually when it is diagnoses as terminal the patient has six months maximum left to live, altjhough in some cases it may go into couple of years

My mother in law died in 1992 from melanoma. This was back in the day when there wasn't much they could do other than surgery. The original site of the melanoma was on her shoulder, but it spread to her abdomen. The surgeon performed a hysterectomy and bowel resection on her and gave her two pretty good years. Unfortunately the cancer reappeared and a tumor wrapped around her small intestines, and she ended up starving to death.

It took her about 7 weeks (after checking into the hospital the last time) to die. It was extremely painful and she had very few lucid moments during that time. It was a very unpleasant way to die. Metastatic disease normally ends up destroying a vital organ like the brain, liver, stomach, small bowel, etc. Melanoma spreads to different organs, so there is no clear answer as to how people are going to die. That's why you are probably having difficulty finding out how these people die. Again, each case will be different. Hope this answers your question.
