What oral medication is available for melanoma skin cancer? |
I just found out I have melanoma skin cancer, stage 2. Does anyone know of any oral medication for it? I am just curious. Thanks! More than likely you will receive immunology treatments i.e. Interferon shots. After the surgery and all the scans your oncologist will come up with a game plan. No, there is no oral medication used to treat melanoma. Usually with stg. II the treatment would be surgery followed by immunotherapy (interferon) usually given IV or by subcutaneous injection. Start by researching alpha interferon it is a biological agent that uses your own immune system to fight the cancer. If you have heard of an oral medication used to treat melanoma it may be a "new" drug on a clinical trial. To see new and upcoming treatments being tested check out NCI's website (National Cancer Institute) and check out the clinical trials section. Surgery is the treatment of choice for stage 2 melanoma with a year of weekly interferon injections to follow. These interferon injections would be sub cutaneous and not IV as one person told you. Get lined up now for your surgery before this cancer spreads to your lymph nodes. good luck |
