Medicare coverage in rehab? |
My mother (88) injured her self. After a week in the hospital, she was moved to rehab. In a week or so (which will be on month after original injury and three weeks into rehab) the rehab facility is going to have a "care planning meeting". What will this involve? What rights does my mother have under Medicare to stay in rehab, or receive nursing care in either a retirement home or in her own home? Where can I learn the rules that govern this situation, without reading the Medicare regulations? First of all, be sure you are "legal guardian" of your mother and she agrees to have you help her make decisions with her treatment. Let this "team" know that and ask questions. You may also want to call 1-800-medicare and have them direct you to a persn that can help you understand the process. You may also want to pick up the book "Healthcare for Less" by Michelle Katz, at your local bookstore or order it from amazon...that is where I was able to get this information. There is a chapter dedicated on explaining Medicare in a simple way and some great websites you will need so you save money and don't run out of benefits. |
