Is Medicare draining the Australian economy? is it time to abolish medicare? & have a private health system?

just for the record, I dont agree with my question, but I was just interested in what Australians generally think about Medicare and if its a waste or if it can be improved?

Medicare is being drained by all the people who get treatment free.

When I was in hospital recently with my daughter who got run over by a car, several people came in to casualty and left before being seen because they couldn't be bothered to wait (one had a "cold") - people like this clog the system up, and if they had to pay, they would think twice about using an emergency system simply because they can't be bothered to make a doctor's appointment, or they think they are SO important that they have to go to the front of the queue.

Even though my daughter was badly injured (broken bones), we still had to wait in line for nearly an hour.

I have private medical insurance - simply because I would get heavily taxed by the government if I didn't. I get taxed twice for half the service.

The system stinks and I would be all in favour of a completely private system.

How else could poor people afford health care ? Just look at the United States if you want to see what would happen. Medicare could be improved greatly. The system we have now is barely functioning. It always strikes me as being on the verge of collapse.Look at how we have to import all our doctors and nurses. How pathetic is that ?
