Our Medicare prescription drug coverage in Michigan has the limitation that our living outside the country?

for several months at a time disqualifies us for our benefit. Our doctors out of the country, where we live sent copies of thier prescriptions to our U.S. doctor, but she won't make her prescription based on this. How can we find a doctor who will talk, on the phone to our overseas doctors and accept thier word, as fellow professionals that we need these medicines. Otherwise we will have to continue paying exorbitant prices here when we could be getting these medicines free under this Medicare program.
We cannot afford to fly to the U.S just to see a doctor and get his prescription! Thanks for your help and advice.

We are not vacationing, we live in another country several months out of the year, our home is there. We only live with our daughter in Michigan for a few months at a time when we can afford to make the trip.

Medicare questions and policy interpretation can be confusing!
I am afraid that your situation is very different from the experiences of most Medicare beneficiaries and that is why you haven't yet received a satisfactory answer to your question. Also, the answer to this question may depend on what type of Part D plan you have. And let's face it, even when one lives in this country all the time, Medicare is confusing!

Please consider calling your local Area Agency on Aging--these groups are one of the best kept secrets around for older Americans and their families who are seeking information on Medicare and other age-related questions. There is one serving every community of the United States. If you aren't able to call, perhaps your daughter can call on your behalf. The Area Agency on Aging network is national--and they aren't selling anything. When you call, ask for the staff who handle "Information and Assistance." The staff there will visit with you and do their best to guide you to information you need concerning your situation. If there is a solution, they will help you get to it! Keep in mind that right now there are many seniors like you who are dealing with Medicare Part D problems--so these folks are busy! However, they will do their best to help you. You will most likely find the people there friendly and very helpful.

You or your daughter can call toll-free 1-800-677-1116 to find how to contact the area agency on aging serving where you live in Michigan.

If you do contact your local Area Agency on Aging and like the help that they give you, let your local county officials and your folks in Congress know. Or consider making a contribution to support their work. Area Agencies on Aging don't have big budgets and appropriations for the Older Americans Act, the legislation that makes this help possible, have not increased significantly for about 25 years!

Best wishes and Good luck!

if you can afford to vacation outside the cournty for several months then you sould be able to afford paying for your meds :D

it is very unlikely you will find a doc that will do this for you b/c they are then liable if something is wrong with the rx
