Australia medicare?

details covered by medicare nsw

www.medicareaustralia.gov.au
go to this site and you will most probably find what you need to know.

Medicare is run by the federal government and was changed a couple of years ago to the pharmaceutical benifet scheme (pbs) it covers the neccesary medicines (asthma inhalers etc.) and allows the medicare and healthcare cards be used by bulk-billing doctors

Medicare cover any consultations with doctors, specialists and public hospital stays. To get a rebate from Medicare for any test or specialist you need to get a referral from your doctor.
Tests included are medical diagnostic tests like ultrasounds, blood tests and xrays.
You are not covered for orthotics, optometrists, (except for basic bulk billing eye tests) dentistry or physio and chiro.

What you do is see your doctor and pay them and then take your invoice and receipt to medicare to get your rebate.
You don't get the full amount back, just 85% of the scheduled fee and gp consultations you get back 100% of the scheduled fee. Doctors charge whatever they feel their services are worth so what you get back depends on what you pay them.
If you go to a bulk billing surgery you don't pay anything at all. just give them your medicare card and you will be bulk billed.
