Medicaid....??? |
ok im 5 months pregnate and was seeing a doctor where i lived in south carolina i just moved to NY and need to go to a doctor becuase i missed my appointment on the 15th becuase i moved....can i see a doctor while im in the process of swithcing my medicaid or does it have to be fully switched before i can??? DEAR MISS I'm not sure how it works in SC or NY. medicade is a federal funded program if you are still covered in south carolina then go ny should accept it This is a question that you need to ask at the Medicaid office. Depending on where you live in NY (the state or the city), you may need to call the various OBs and ask each office if they take Medicaid. I live in NY state and I know that there is a Pregnancy Crisis center than can help you get going on the paper work to change your medicaid over. It most likely will depend on the county you live in what the absolutes of the rules governing Dept. of Social Services/Medicaid but calling their switch board for general questions might help. Also, they will give you a list of doctors in the area where you are in NY that are accepting new medicaid patients as well. Every state takes care of their medicaid program differently. You need to go to your local Health Department. In most states - they will take care of back charges for care in the state where you currently reside back to the LMP or date of your last menstral period as long as you have a proof of pregnancy from your previous doctor which is usually like a perscription form upon which it gives your LMP and expected due date along with the doctor's signature. Before you see a doctor - make sure they will accept medicaid - alot of doctors if they take medicaid will know the process and tell you that they are okay in waiting for payment. Most states you'll find that using a Nurse Midwife for a hospital birth is a way that you can find excellent care that is covered by medicaid. A great way to find a doctor who accepts medicaid is to call a hospital and ask if they have midwives and who they are. Also, some hospitals will give you names of OB GYNs who accept it if you ask. If you are having anything like severe pain or bleeding please go to the ER right away - if you don't have insurance most hospitals will find a way to help you out if you are pregnant. I am sure you moved to New York because there are better job opportunities and therefore a greater chance of getting off of medicaid. Yea you. |
