I am pregnanat and availed Medicaid in MD. My husband has a job now, do I need to be added to his insurance?

I was enrolled in the medicaid last year in Nov. I am due in April and my husband got a job (his anual income is above the medicaid limits) since Jan of this year. Do I need to be added to his insurance or can I continue to use the medicaid facility? I am comfortable with the current doctor and hence I dont want to change doctors. What are the implications if I continue to make use of the medicaid facility given to me till the birth of my baby?

Since you are legally his wife it is necessary to be added on the policy. Also add the names of any son or daughter you may have.

This is very important.

Insurers are extremely insistent on having full information given to them and your husband should have provided the names of all family members in his initial application. Changing the information now should still be simple to do.

If a husband or wife is covered under any policy then Medicaid will very likely insist that the plan applies to all immediate family members, and they could deny you benefits, even if you are not named on the policy.

The implications of not getting yourself, and your children, registered on the policy can be negative, although not necessarily so.

If care is provided under Medicaid during a time when a valid policy is in place with an insurer, and you should have been named as a family member, it is possible that Medicaid may bill you for the charges incurred for your treatment at a later date to recover the money spent.

If they did that, you could be stuck with paying some or all those costs back to them, and the insurer would not pay anything, because you are not named on the policy.

You are already pregnant, so you must get your name and any children's names added to the policy as soon as possible.

It is quite likely that your medicaid doctor will also be more than happy to accept your husbands private insurance.

The private insurance may not cover a pregnancy that started prior to your husband getting his job. You might still be eligible for the medicaid coverage of your pregnancy.

Call and talk to the benefits administrator at your husbands company if possible, they can explain benefits better. you might also call your medicaid administrator. Both medicaid and your doctor sincerely want you to have appropriate coverage for you and your baby. The insurance company sincerely wants to make money, but they have to follow the rules too.
