Ways around the Medicaid system?

Hey all. Just the other day I went to apply for Medicaid. I live in Colorado. One of the Medicaid Assistance Employees informed me that my family of 4 (I'm pregnant) is eligible for the program because we're within income limit--$3,442 p/m.

So, I went down to my local PE office, got a pregnancy verification and applied. Well, I was denied. A woman there told me that I am not eligible for Medicaid because I have health insurance, therefore, I would have to make $1,000 less per month than what I make now to be eligible.

Here's the thing. My insurance will not cover maternity. I don't like maternity card, and I am still paying hospital bills from my first born child. This woman had the nerve to tell me to set up a payment plan with my doctor's office.

I have not a clue what to do. My question is: has anyone cheated the system to apply for Medicaid? Meaning, if I drop my individual health plan, would I then be eligible for Medicaid?

Any input would be helpful.

Hello I myself have medicaid just for my children. If you drop your other insurance you will be elgible for medicaid especially when you are expecting.Sometimes the people that work in the welfare system act rude. You need to go back to that office and re-apply.If your other insurance won't cover you, medicaid should pick you up.That is what they are there for.Go over ther head's that is what I do.Speak to the person in charge who is over them.Get a letter from your other insurance to have proof that you are not covered for maternity.
Lower your income a little.and add some more utilities to what
you pay out per month.Stay strong and stand your ground everything will work out.Let them know that you can't afford to make payment's.Tell them your scraping the bottom of your purse for change just to make it payday to payday.Get all emotional it work's every time.I hope my little advice help's
don't give up.Sincerely,Netta(aka)sweetnettacakes.

Many people try, and do scam the system, unfortunately. Ask medicaid about dropping your health ins.

Isn't there a policy against asking how to purposely break the law? "Will not: 8. Post content that violates federal, state, or local law." Because purposely dropping employer insurance just to get Medicaid is a federal violation, not just a state crime. I hear Colorado actively prosecutes people for that. Which could mean losing both children to the foster care services depending on who person #4 is and if they are a party to it.

Sounds to me like you are choosing to be an irresponsible person to bilk tax payers. You are pregnant, again, because you chose to be that way even though your health insurance does not cover maternity expenses, it is preventable after all. You choose not to pay your previous medical bills, and you chose the current job with insufficient insurance. $3,442 a month for 3 folks and a fetus is not too bad, and you could be getting food stamps and WIC too. Try $1000 a month for 2 folks and no Medicaid for a father who raises his child alone.

Thanks to the responder who suggested dropping your health insurance to qualify for medicaid. Instead of your private insurance paying for most normal medical expenses, the taxpayers would be given the privlidge of paying for all of your medical bills. What a country. I love it when I get to pay someone elses maternity costs. Did you every hear of birth control or having the father take the responsibility for his kid?
