Medicaid cancelled while in the middle of braces treatment?

Okay, my son was getting braces treatment for his teeth and in the middle of it, his insurance (Mediciaid, HIP ..whats the difference between them?) was cancelled, but the weird thing is MY insurance is still effective...
I want him to get the insurance as soon as possible because he's still in the middle of treatment and it will permanently damage his teeth if he stop the treatment like this. He still has the braces on him but haven't visit the orthodontist in almost 7 months.

What should i do?

I called HIP, they say to first apply for Mediciaid? (again, whats the difference between HIP and Medicaid?)

How can i do this and as soon as possible...i'm really worried?

I visit local social service and they told me to just apply for HIP and then Medicaid will become effective if HIP starts working again.

But i called HIP, and THEY said to first apply for Medicaid (how????) ...

All help will be appreciated, thanks :)

I am not sure how dentist and oral surgeons work but at the hospitals there are people that are supposed to help you get the medicaid started. try calling the office to see if there is an insurance specialist there to help you or give you and numbers to call. i can't imagine they wouldn't have someone that is somewhat familiar with patients insurance and the companies. I think HIP is more like an HMO and Medicaid is from the government, although I could be way wrong. Go to the HIP website and see if there is FAQ's or a help line or call the primary care doctor to see if they have any idea what to do. I hope you get it straigthened out. Insurance can be a pain!! Good luck and sorry if I gave any wrong info. I am basing it off of when I worked with insurance a looong time ago.

Sounds like the BUREAUCRATIC RUN AROUND!! When they cancelled his insurance, you should have appealed it immediately! Request applications from both and apply for both at the same time. Or call someone in authority! Let them know your dilemma, maybe they can help!

We don't really have all the information needed to properly answer your question. I did an internet search for HIIP and if you are Utah, it is the Health Insurance Information Program. So, I am assuming you are in Utah. It looks like HIIP provide sinformation, help regarding Insurance programs, so they could be a good resource. If they said to apply for medicaid, you shoudl do so.

Here is a contact list for HIIP to make sure you called the right contact:

Medicaid is different from HIIP, Medicaid is the insurance program that is funded by the state, while HIIP is just an informatino office. I would call your state's Medicaid office...

You should ask why the benefits were cancelled and ask how you can get them reinstated due to the situation.

yes but once they start a treatment they will pay for it still
