Can anyone help us with a medicaid scenario???

So i am changing jobs where i will be making under the medicaid cut off to qualify. my wife is quitting the 3rd week of march cause she is due the 1st week of april with our first baby. we are trying to figure out how to get on medicaid to pay for the baby expenses. we are wondering can we apply after the baby and medicaid will back pay the previous two months (deductible, doctor visits, etc...) or do we need to apply and get accepted before? if we apply now we actually will be over the limit cause her and i both work. so what do we do. serious answers only!

Depending on your State...Medi-cal or Medi-aid I believe IS retroactive, especially for pregnancy...call your Community Services Dept. or go to their Web page.

contact the medicaid help line and ask them. would it not be possible that they would have the answers?

ok now i just got on and from my uderstanding it pays up to 3 months of past bills,so ya you should be ok if you do that.

I deal with medicaid allllll day and they are douche bags. They won't reimburse anything so get on now! Just dont put your wife's income. Just tell them she has already taken her leave of absence. They take forever to process information so do it asap!

I am not sure if they pay back what you have already spent. I had it before I went into labor. But what you can do, is maybe wait til the day she quits then go and file it! Or possible talk to them about it, not sure! But I think it would be better if she was on it before the baby is born! Just my opinion, florida medicaid is.......a pain! But good luck with it all, and Congrats on the first baby!

I cannot answer you civilly, but I can answer you seriously. Young able bodied adults looking for a handout are pathetic. My daughter worked up until the Thursday before she gave birth on Saturday. She was 39. How young is your wife? She had two other children to care for, also. This is your first, right? You picked a super time to "change jobs", didn't you? Yes, medicaid will pay for you freeloaders, I'm sorry to say. Yes, you can apply after the baby is born and yes, they will back pay. Tragic.

Edit: Regarding the advice to omit your wife's income. That is welfare fraud and you can get in very serious trouble with that. For Heaven's sake, don't add criminality to it.

Edit to Michelle: I never said my family was all that "together". I was saying we work and pay our own way, as any self respecting person who is capable of doing so should do. But you're right about one thing. My family IS wonderful. And usually "a break" is synonymous with a handout.

As Im reading the answers before i answer for myself, i have one bit of advise: Do not follow this one:
"I deal with medicaid allllll day and they are douche bags. They won't reimburse anything so get on now! Just dont put your wife's income. Just tell them she has already taken her leave of absence. They take forever to process information so do it asap!"
That is welfare fraud. I do not know where you live, but in my state (NY) they *WILL* re-imburse you for 3months prior. Just keep all receipts as proof that you have paid. Go to your local madicaid unit, and explain to them that your wife will be taking her leave soon. You would like coverage, even for a brief time, to cover the labor and delivery process and any care that your new son/daughter may require. Attempt to get on before, then you wont have to furnish the proof that they will need to reimburse you. If you have to, wait until the day *AFTER* your wifes leave starts. It shouldnt be an issue at that point. Be sure to let them know that you are the sole provider at that point (unless she is still getting paid) and when she will be returning to work, if shes planning on it. If there are any other questions, call your medicaid directly. They should have all the answers that you need. I've been dealing with medicaid for a while, and both of my children were covered since i became pregnant. Its not that much of an issue with them. Hope this helps! Good luck and congrats!!
