Question about medicaid?

Ok...so I am on medicaid in South Carolina because I am pregnant. But I am moving this weekend to Indiana. Is it possible for them to just switch my medicaid from one state to the other? When I talked to one lady at the welfare office she said that I would have to cancel the South Carolina one before I could apply for Indiana's medicaid. Is that true? Because then I will be going up to a week or so with no insurance and what if something were to happen? Thanks ahead to anyone who might be able to help!

I do have a job. I have always had a job since I turned 18. But a lot of jobs don't have nice insurance plans.

Get a job and you won't have you worry about it.

Since you are pregnant you will qualify for Medicaid in any state.
Go to the welfare office in Indiana as soon as you get there to get it transferred over. Otherwise, South Carolina's may not pay in Indiana.

But there shouldn't be a lapse in coverage. But if there is, Medicaid will go retro due to your pregnancy.

yes they should

I don't know about it just carrying over from state to state but I do know that Medicaid will cover the time lapsed.

If the move is permanent, then yes, a "transfer" is needed...this is because you are going to another state where medical insurance policies might be different from your previous state of residence.

That is indeed a risk, especially since you are an expectant mother. Of course, if the baby is just 1 month old, there's not much danger on the delivery side since the baby won't come out until about 8 months later. If you are expecting to deliver you child anytime soon, or you have passed your trimester and there are strainuous work ahead of you, then there might be a problem if you have no insurance if, hopefully not, you get a miscarriage.

If you can postpone your move before delivering your baby, then that might be for the best. If in case it's still early in your conception, you can probably get away with it and move and re-apply for medicaid...please do so to take care of yourself and the baby as well.

Hope this helps!

Are you moving to Indiana because the Welfare is better.
Indiana medicaid and welfare have much better benefits
and are easier to receive. Even men can get medicaid
in Indiana. There are more impoverished White Americans
in Indiana, so the government structured the welfare
system much better. Areas where there are predominantly
hispanics, blacks the assistance are not as good. Eg
Michigan, and the Southern states.

Medicaid does NOT transfer. It is a state to state program and so I would close it out here, as soon as you move apply that day and then if something happens they will go back and pay from date of application.

As a low income pregnant woman, you should be able to apply for and be accepted by Medicaid in Indiana. Most states have similar financial eligibility criteria.

If there is a need for you to receive medical care during the brief time in which you will be without coverage, and once your Medicaid eligibility is re-established, Medicaid will ask you if you have any outstanding medical bills within the last 3 months. Medicaid will cover any of that care as long as it is something for which they generally pay. This is called the "3 month look-back."

Good luck with your move and pregnancy!
