Pregnant Student and need insurance...MEDICAID?

I am currently in my 5th semester of college and I just found out I was pregnant. I do not have a jobanymore being that I have heavy course loads and am living off of grants and loans. I need to know if I would be accepted for Medicaid (just until I can get a job and purchase my own insurance) so that I can get the proper health care I need for my baby... Does medicaid help those who are unemployed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you have no taxable income, you should be able to get on Medicaid. Look in the phone book to find out where your town's Department of Social Services office is located. Go there, and bring proof that you're pregnant (has to be signed results of an official test as read by a nurse or doctor, not a home pregnancy test), proof of any income you may have had in the last month, proof of address, and your ID and birth certificate. They will set you up with a caseworker and you should be approved within 2 weeks.

Better still, if you do start earning income while you're on Medicaid, it doesn't matter. Once you're on it, you're on it, no matter how much you earn, until about 2 months after the birth.

How old are you?

yes they do call your department of human services

Definitely get a hold of the Department of Human Services in your state. Get on WIC (Women, Infants and Children) if it is available in your state. Your family planning clinic may also have ways to help you.

Try you local department of social services as far as insurance for you both and possibly for food assistance. Some planned parenthood clinics provide prenatal care and help you set up something called pcap(prenatal care assistance program) through them

you can get state insurance
