Medicaid is state specific?

ok so my daughter fell and cut herself today, after going to the hospital and getting 3 stitches,i went to walgreens and tried to fill her rx but they told me the medicaid voucher i gave they couldnt take because it is state specific, i had no idea... now what do i do, i am flat broke and will be till payday <friday> she needs her antibiotics now

Medicaid is indeed state specific. Each state has its own rules and regulations and each medicaid program is only good for that state. Each state also has lists of what drugs are covered and what are not. There is no way to get around the fact that out of state medicaid is not valid at drugstores. I am a pharmacist and have been dealing with this for 30 years.

each state runs medicaid differently than the next. You should be able to get service, but you might need to call your worker and find out how to proceed. If you have just moved to a new state you should be able to get temporary benefits, and if you are on vacation, your worker will have a solution for you as well. call them asap.

I never heard of that before. Walgreen's accept medicaid in Georgia. If you received a medicaid voucher in that state it should accept it. Go to another pharmacy and try if they do not accept go to where you received the voucher or called and ask them why and where could they accept the voucher. Unless medicaid could not pay for that medicine, but they should of gave you the generic version. I do not understand because my son needed his acid reflux medicine and medicaid no longer paid for zantac so they gave him the generic version and that came from Walgreen's.
