Do I need Measles, Mumps & Rubella vaccination? |
I am going to Japan next week and heard about the measles outbreak. I am a Singaporean born in 1973 and probably had been vaccinated as a child. Does anyone know if I still need MMR? thanks If you've been vaccinated, see your doctor and have an MMR titer drawn. The blood work can tell you if you're immune but don't hesistate -do it asap. And you should have worried about this long ago. Even if it turns out you're not immune and you get a booster vaccination, it won't be effective for at least a month, so you'll still be susceptible when you go next week. Your body can't build full immunities that quickly. Just try to be careful on your trip. yes and every 10 years we are to get a booster shot you really need to find out if you were vaccinated or not and if theres no way for you to obtain this information, then yes deffinantly you need to be vaccinated. these diseases can be deadly, hence why there is a vaccine for it in the first place. and if you were vaccinated and you dont know about it, another dose wont hurt you. Chances are you've had your MMR as a child we all get 2 doses and it's a lifetime vaccine. But just to be safe you should have your Doctors office draw your blood and do a titer and that can determine if your immune. If your not immune get the Vaccine right away as it does take time to build immunity within the body. You should also check the CDC website to see if the outbreak is really in the area you are traveling in. |
