Can a person get an mmr vaccination as an adult after having measles as a child?

I had measles as a child and have immunity to it. But, now am starting nursing clinicals and need proof of immunity to mumps also. Am old enough not to have had the vaccination as a child, but can only get the MMR as an adult. I am aware of the "pregnancy" thing and am not.

you will need to have the vaccine for the mumps part of it...
Nothing bad will happen to you having the MMR vaccine. It is partly overkill on the measles bit, but there is nothing to be done for it.. You will be way more miserable getting mumps over a vaccine!
and on top of it, depending on your age and when you had measles, your titers may be low enough that the measle part will only boost what you already naturally have on board... Don't get me wrong, I am a strong believer in not over- vaccinating, but an ounce of prevention is more than worth a pound of cure in this case! Have your shot and don't worry about it!
BTW, if you don't get the vaccine for mumps and rubeola (which is what the MR of MMR is for) you will probably not be allowed to do the clinicals! Do NOT listen to the ignorant people that do not understand exactly what this vaccine is or what vaccines actually do! Without the vaccine you will be a danger to your patients should you contract the disease and expose others to it!!
For those who refuse vaccines and rely on "herd immunity" I cordially invite them to have a nice case of measels, polio, adult chicken pox (can be fatal) or any of the other nasties out there and then see what song they are singing after an infection like that!

IF YOU CATCH MEASLES IN YOUR CHILDHOOD YOU ARE ALREADY VACCINATED AND YOU DONT NEED TO CARE ABOUT IT.

I was in the same situation, but my school said they would accept a letter from a guardian stating that I did have it as a kid. So I just had my dad write a letter to them. Ask your school if they will accept this.

Yes, I believe so. My wife had to get an MMR when she immigrated here, and she had measles before.

Sure can; just see a doctor. Except for the 'pregnancy' thing, there is absolutely no reason not to get one. Good luck and God bless

Yes, you can get an MMR titer as an adult. But most places just require documented proof that you did have one as a child. Get a copy of that record from your doc or folks. Thant should work.

Yes, you can get one..... or even 3 or 4. It took me a few times to learn this, but in the Army it is really a good idea to make copies of your medical records and your shot records because they do get lost. The soldier doesn't normally find out they are lost until it is time to get shots and winds up getting 7-10 shots at one time.

I've had MMR about 3-5 times in my life and unless that can cause herniated discs, I've had no problems from them.

you run the risk of overloading your system. my sons had the natural occuring chicken pox. the doctor (while i was in the hospital) had a discussion with my mother the day she took my kids for their well check up. my younger son now has Ibs and my older one has chronic mono. (mono is the same family of viruses). he couldnt find proof of chicken pox and my mother gave up in arguing. they were both given the chicken pox vaccine.
basically the vaccine in those who've already had the actual disease will cause an overload and induce other diseases.

you really dont want to take that chance now do you?

The first thing you need to do is read the ingredients in a MMR vaccine. Why would you want to put that in your body. Do some research before you follow the herd.
