What about Measles can be prevented with a shot? |
PLEASE ANSWR!!! HURRY!! Measles is caused by a virus, used to be extremely common, but not since the vaccine was invented. The vaccine is a live attenuated virus, meaning that scientists took the measles virus, grew them on cells of another species (usually monkey) for many generations until they get so used to their environment that they've mutated to best grow in it. Then, they've lost the ability to cause disease in humans. This is then injected into your body as a vaccine. Your immune system still recognizes it as a virus, and marches a defense against it. Afterwards, your immune system builds up memory cells that patrols the body, looking for this virus. When you get infected with measles for real, your memory cells will recognize it and gets the defense system working. Most of the time, it's so effective that it kills off the virus and you never even knew that you were infected. |
