My best friend's wife had a mastectomy a few years ago. Big problems!?

I have known then both for 20 years and she was always the first one to go topless on the beach, or even in the house.
In other words, she never had any hang-ups about nakedness.
She has had her breast rebuilt, using a rib from her back.
But she is still very shy - even with her husband - to get undressed with the light on.
I know it upsets him and he is kind and reassuring with her. But it deosn't seem to work.
I could say something to her, but I am frightened of doing any more damage to their relationship.

She'll be okay when she becomes used to the way she looks. Definitely don't say anything. She needs to have privacy, and thinking that other people are talking about her breasts will make her even more aware that she's "different".
Your friend just needs to downplay the significance of her breasts. She'll accept things in her own time

Different changes bring different reactions. As time goes by she'll feel comfortable enough to be more open with him I think you should also let her know if she needs someone to talk to that you are available. Let her bring it up when she is ready instead of approaching her. She might feel that her husband can't relate to what she is going thru and she needs a woman's point of view.

Only someone who has gone through what she has knows how she feels.A breast is a very important part of how a women feels about herself.If she doesn`t want to walk around with out a top then leave her be.If she needs to talk ,she will ,but she has to feel the person she`s talking to understands where she`s coming from.I`ve had a breast removed,I know about the angry and being scared.She`s had cancer.It takes awhile to get your confidence back.I had cancer 18 years ago and had again 2004.Same breast even though I had a mastectomy.I`m glad to be alive.Gods been good and things have away of working out.
