Lymthphoedema? due to breasr cancer have had mastectomy?

lymph nodes removed, have developed this condition, my lymph therepist did not have an arm sleeve to fit me as i am quite slim so it had to be ordered, which i collected from my chemist today, but i my lymth lady said it has to specially fitted by her, is that right? looks just like a support stocking to me, couldn't i put it on myself?

yes, it has to be fitted because if it doesn't fit just right things can be worse. if it's too loose it won't work. if it's too tight it will cut off circulation. you can see a lyphedema therapist. you can do exercises to help. specifically the lebed method of healing through movement. You might need a hand 'gauntlet' also at times. not all brands are the same. some contain latex and some do not (and other components). some might work better for you. I think Juzo is the best brand. If whatever you have doesn't work. You can take action to improve your lymphedema. there are specific and fun exercises. check out the lebed method.

Get it done properly. If you restrict the wrong area you could be stopping essential blood flow to restore health inside the arm.

yes it needs to be fitted properly and make sure you wear it my friend had one and didn't wear it because she felt silly and she has been in so much pain she still hasn't gone back to work yet and her mastectomy was 16 months ago.

My mum had a mastectomy at age 91 [3rd visit from breast cancer which first arrived at 71!] She drank Aloe Vera juice in water every day from the day she first learnt she had breast cancer at 71.

When she had her major surgery in 2001 she didn't have an arm sleeve, but what she did religiously were the exercises - walking her fingers up the wall etc with her arm outstretched. She never had any swelling under her arm or chest and they used to take her around the wards to cheer up young patients.

We were told she had 1yr to 18 mths to live because they couldn't give her chemo because it would have killed her - anyway she carried on with the Aloe Vera and died in February this year at 97 - of pneumonia! Brave, determined and positive lady. Good Luck
