Perindopril and Marfan Syndrome. Enlarged Mitro Valve?

I read that a recent sudy of an enlarge miro valve 5 an above
dilation can be reduced with this drug and a Beta Blocker.

October Journal of Medicine Baker Clinic in Australia?????

I do not know about that article. Though
Ace inhibitors like perindopril and beta blockers do reduce the volume of the the heart muscle (ventricular hypertrophy) when used in the treatment of this disorder. That as a consequence would indirectly "reduce" the size of the mitral valve, but they do not directly affect the leaflets of the valve.

any defect with the mitral valve would require surgery. ACE inhibitors and beta blockers would help to keep the heart from over ablooning ... or dealing with the hypertrophy. i havent read it, but ive read many articles like these and many tiems they talk about a recently used drug combo that seems to be very effective. generally speaking, the mitral valve will probably need to be replaced.

I don't remember seeing the mitral valve specifically mentioned in the article but I do know of the study being done. My recollection was that the perindopril (an ACE inhibitor) was showing to keep the aorta from becoming stiff or brittle as it aged, thus hoping to reduce aortic dissections and ruptures.

Is very interesting that this is taking place at the same time as losartan trials in the US which hopes that the aorta won't enlarge but be able to recreate damaged cells. For those that can tolerate one or both medications it could be a great thing for the connective tissue disorder world.

I do know that current standard for the aortic valve if Marfan is involved has been decreased to 4.5 for doing preventative surgery and heard the lead researcher say that if enlargement has started not to wait for proof of the new drug but go ahead with standard treatment (betas and surgery).

There are also necessary testing of kidney, pancreas, liver that should be done when using either of these medications.
