Does anyone know how you inherit marfan syndrome? |
Does anyone know how you inherit marfan syndrome? You can get it from one or both of your parents. The degree of severity may differ, When a person with Marfan has a child that child has a 50% chance of having Marfans. It does not mean that half of the children would have it. I come from a family with 4 children, 3 of us are Marfan. About 1/4 of the people born with Marfans are spontaneous mutations, that is neither parent has it. According to current statistics as many as 1 in 5,000 children will be born with Marfan. My mother had it and her father (my grandfather) was a spontaneous mutation. If you would like to know more about it you can go to the National Marfan website at www.Marfan.org. Or you can visit one of the many support groups out there. I am the "owner" of one such group and it is very small. Another I belong to is Marfans Support and Chat and we get together in an IM conference three nights a week. Feel free to contact me to go in in one of the chats, we have dozens of knowledgeable people (with and without Marfans) who would be glad to discuss it with you. We are here to discuss all asects of Marfans and are happy to educate. If its inherited that means someone else in your family had or has it. It is genetic. Marfan's syndrome is a genetically inherited connective tissue disease that appears in 4-6 of every 100,000 people. There is 50% incidence of transmittance to offspring, with no sex-linked characteristics. Marfan's syndrome causes deformations and defects in several body systems, most notably the ocular, skeletal, and cardiovascular. Diagnosis is based only upon clinical observation, with symptoms of two or more of the common conditions required for confirmation from ur parents - 50% chance, varying degrees of symptoms |
