Why are Bipolar i.e. Manic-Depressive people so mean spirited? |
I swear I have been so traumatized and had to put up with so many Bipolar mean..and I do mean mean/evil people.I do feel sorry for people with mental illness....but I find that people who suffer from just Major Depressive Disorder or depression NOS are not near or even in the same planet when it comes to being mean/evil like some of the people I know who are Bipolar......Although I must say that some of the people I know who are Bipolar are not all mean spirited...Is it just the personality of the person? Someone in the manic stage of bipolar disorder really has little or no concept of what they are doing to others. For that matter, they frequently have little or no concept of what they are doing to themselves as well. It's possible to be so high in a manic state as to have a psychotic break. I've seen it firsthand, and it's scary to be on the sane person around when it happens. my husband has bipolar one minute hes nice and the next im a slut ***** u name it it never ends Report It You have to understand the disorder. Its not people are like that by choice, they are just literally not okay in the membrane. Bipolars, when they are in their high mode, tend to be very uncaring. Theyre depressed because they were diagnosed with being bi-polar.....its a tough thing to deal with. If they did not have bi-polar they most likely would not be that way. It is mostly the ones that are not taking their medication correctly that have severe mood swings. My friend's Ex-husband was very verbally abusive to her, spent money like crazy, and basically blames her for everything. i have bipolar and if we come across as mean sometimes it is because we are frustrated. Think about it like this. For a few weeks you are depressed then things level off and you finally feel like you are getting things done. Then low and behold that feel good feeling gets even higher and before you know you are crashing again back to depressed and not getting much done. The up and down rollar coaster really puts a stopper on any real plans and can be a let down especially when things are changing all the time and you can keep up with them. So I would think anyone under these conditions would be a little pissed off. .We aren't all mean or evil. When I'm in a bad place because my meds are not right I tend to be reclusive but I have never been told I was mean, in fact the opposite. My Shrink says I need to put myself first more often. Maybe you are looking for 'mean" in people? I hope you find "nice" in people and no one else hurts you. just because someone is bipolar does not mean they are an evil person. also everyone feels depressed at some point in their lives. bipolar people come from all walks of life and have a multitude of different personalities. i don't understand why you would think people with bipolar are deficient in the personality department? unfortunetely there is a lot of bad people in the world. what makes them bad? usually circumstances and upbringing/socialisation. having the attitude that bipolar people are all mean is very very narrow minded. it is a very outdated opinion of mental health. also, how do you know that every evil/mean person you have met is bipolar? this to me would suggests that you have known a lot of bipolar people in your life. i have a friend who is bipolar and they are lovely person. i suggest you read up on mental health and educate yourself. i'm sorry you have met some mean people in your life. you deserve better. it's a shame that we have to go through life meeting thoroughly unpleasant people. it's just life i guess. what i try and think about is my values. look to spend time with people with similar values and beliefs. also to remind you again that mental illness does not define someone. hey i'm bipolar and lovable. what about the so-called "normal people" who treat me bad at times. so do not judge. cuz everyone has a temper once in a while. |
