Pain Management?

My mother suffers from tummy gas which makes it difficult to eat or drink. She also suffers from rheumatism but now is losing weight quickly. She seems to have given up on life and we are currently looking at the private health care for answers. How can she manage her pain???

I agree with Samsam that the anti inflammatory medication can cause severe stomach problems. Make sure she always eats before taking the medication as well as using an antacid to protect the stomach. This could be the source of the gas.

I recommend you have your mother start eating papaya as it is the most soothing food for the stomach. If you don't have it available you can purchase papaya tablets at the health food store. I have seen many stomach problems helped by using this food.

I think it's a great idea to see a private Physician. I think you will probably get better medical treatment.

She needs to go see her family doc first and find out the cause of the tummy gas........he may give her something then? Maybe she needs to go to a pain doc, is she in that much pain from tummy gas????????????

There are a number of pain killers out there. She may have to keep trying until she finds the right one. Has the doc given her anything now? If so, and she is still in pain, get back to the doc for something else, or a higher dose. They can probably give her something for the gas too. Good luck, and sorry to hear she is having a rough time!

Beware that pain killers prescribed for rheumatic pains are harmful to the stomach, and might lead to gastritis, or even an ulcer. An antacid is commonly prescribed with these, and a relatively stomach-friendly pain killer is better. For the gas, a kind of charcoal tablets would help.

Sounds to me as if it would be a good idea to take her to a Gastrointernalist first. The stomach trouble without answers is really scary. It really sounds as if she has some sort of colitis, or even diverticulitis. Both of which are very painful. Unfortunately, Pain medications could only add to her stomach trouble. Especially anti inflamatories. Any doctor that you would use for her stomach will be sensitive to her arthritis pain and know what med. would be best for her.

She should check with the doctor to see if the rheumatism meds can have side effects. If so try to change them. Bowenwork is a great alternative for managing rheumatism pain with no side effects. It can also help with mild gastrointestinal issues.

hi Devender!!!!
well in ayurveda it is known as vata the wind, the same gas travels all around the body and causes arthritic conditions to prevail. I would like to know her age, weight, any history of hypertension, diabetes, obesity or anything else. And then I may be in a better condition to guide somethings, but believe me there is nothing to give up coz i strongly believe in the system of yoga for managing any of such chronic ailments. As it is a well known fact that body has got enormous power to heal itself and the day one realizes thas the first day of his second life. Let me have some data and I'll mail u back with whatever i can do for you.

Peace
Andy

she is likely depressed and could use an antidepressant such as remeron which helps with weight gain as well as depression or effexor used for pain and depression. have her see a primary care md or psychiatrist
