I am bipolar , In cognitive behavior therapy,?

I do not understand how you can think instead of just emotionally reacting. I get diappointed. i immediately go into a decline and stop thinking and quit functioning. I spend time in bed and hardly manage to eat and take care of myself. What makes a connection to the thinking part of the brain as soon as a disappointment happens or an upsetting icident occurs.? anyone been successfull handling this??

I, too, have bipolar disorder and it has been one hell of a struggle for as long as I can remember. I have been in and out of therapy since I was 6 and it wasn't until my mid-twenties that I was introduced to DBT (a very specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy) and it has really made life an easier place to be. It's the best thing that ever happened to me. You have to really want to get well and be willing to continually work on it and it is hard, but it is worth it. It took a while for what I was being taught to click, but once it did I found I could apply it in my life constantly and it makes such a difference. Before that "click" it made sense logically, but I couldn't quite connect the info to myself...which it sounds like is where you are with it. I'm far from cured, but I'm also not 2 steps away from hospitalization at every corner.
To get an idea of what DBT is (dialectic behavioral therapy), you can check out www.dbtselfhelp.com....see if any of it feels like it might be what you are looking for.
Good luck with everything...it really can be better. I think the key is to find the right therapist or the right type of therapy...it is not a one-size-fits-all type of thing. It's gotta be right for you.

The site was developed by people with borderline PD, I think...but the program itself was designed by Marsha Linehan FOR borderline patients...but they have realized it actually helps for a lot of different difficulties Report It

yeah, it really is just a matter of thinking yourself well/happier. I had severe depression and 3 or 4 years of therapy, also had some other psychological problesm, and never needed to go on medication. For me it was a matter of realizing that the emotions were depression and then just taking control of myself mentallly. I had to just say this is my life and I will not let a disorder control my life/mood.

My mom is bi-polar, sometimes she doesnt make any sense at all.
she gets moody & it's helps her to get light. Sunlight or any kind of light, but i cant get her out of the house sometimes, she goes in recession, or something.

there's a network in answers a girl i think "honeychildlove' in my network i beieve, who has starrted a group for bi-polar people.

Mom gets treatment & sees her dr. frequently & her counselor.

i hope this helps & you get to feeling better.

I have to say I am bipolar and this question has me puzzled. What are you trying to ask?

life is hard and we are all pretty well #ucked up

It is treating your whole persona. We learn bad coping skills and poor decision making because of our illness. This is a way to help unlearn the process. Kinda a total mental makeover.
