Should dental treatment be part of medicare ?

In Australia these are two seperate health care systems.
Could this be managed better than having to take out private dental cover ?

Definately.There are 600,000 people on our public dental waiting lists Australia wide and that doesn't include all the people who don't bother going! The labor government is promising to pay for everyone's dental who earns under $55,600 per annum if they get in at the election. Let's hope so!

Although our system is better than a lot of other countries - dental care seems to be lacking in help.
Even having private health doesn't cover a lot of the costs envolved in dental. Perhaps this is because dentists are charging amazing prices (do you know a dentist that doesn't drive an expensive car?) Did you realise that crowns cost something like only 10% of what we are actually charged to be made so the mark up is massive!
You use to get a scale and polish free each year however that has now changed!
You would think that the health care system could concentrate on preventitive medicine such as yearly dental checks instead of paying when there is a major problem!
