My mother has been sent home from Hosp. with renal failure??

I care for my 90 yr old mother (dementia) who has been sent home from hospital with renal failure and urinary tract infection, they said she is not a candidate for dialysis. She is not eating at all, I have managed to get her to start drinking sustagen drinks, and some water. she says she is not in pain, just very weak. I have no idea whether she will improve or when or what to expect. Is there a Dr out there who can fill me in on the blanks please. thankyou!

Thanks so much every one for your answers, yes she is still passing urine and she is on antibiotics which I hate giving to her on an empty stomach

Wow, sorry to hear the bad news. The prognosis doesn't look good. You know if she has renal failure, without dialysis she will not be able to clean her blood stream. It sounds to me its just a matter of time. My mother suffers from (Dementia) Alzheimers disease also. My advise....Keep her comfortable and spend as much time with her as possible. I'm my mothers caregiver. I wish you the best and my thoughts are with you. Keep a stiff upper lip and be strong for her.

Goji berri juice or Noni have been known to cure cancers. I'm not a doctor, and I'm not speaking first hand, but they are natural alternatives that you may want to think about.

I am not a doctor, but as a nurse, you may want to contact hospice. Many people who are ready to pass away stop eating and drinking. They do not feel hunger or thirst. Please contact hospice. She needs to get her affairs in order and maybe help you cope. Good Luck!

They should have given you this information before they discharged her from hospital.

If you're in the UK then contact her GP and see if there's any help that you can arrange because it's very difficult caring for somebody who's very sick like that at home.

The hospital has let you down by not giving you any information.

You can also call NHS direct for help and advice at any time of the day or night.

There are varying degrees of renal failure so if she's still passing urine then that's a positive sign. She should be on antibiotics for her uti.
