What are the disadvantages of mammography?

What are the disadvantages of mammography?

They are very uncomfortable and sometimes hurt alot, depending on where you are in your cycle. Don't go right before your period. It's a good thing, esp if the radiologist reads the films correctly.

Pain, yes, and I believe it may make people NOT get them done, which is a shame.
Cost can also be an issue for the uninsured.

but worst of all, they have discovered a different type of breast cancer that is more insidious, and doens't form visible tumors, and mammograms DON'T detect it. So it could also be a false sense of security.

Other than the discomfort, being exposed to any radiation is not good. But I hear staying in the sun for long is more radiation than a quick mammogram.

I would say there is no disadvantage. It is an important procedure that can save lives.
