my mom has an area in her breast thats benign. is this bad? They told her this when she did her mammography. also what will they do to her??? Of course not, benign means not bad. actually lots of women have benign area in their breasts, it just doesnt hurt. Bad things are called malignant. But it's better for her to see an obs/gyn regularly. begnign=friendly No - it is good. It means harmless. The opposite of malignant. In medical terms, it means non-cancerous.
