What could be wrong with my mom?

My mom went to get a mammography and the doctor called her back saying to go back sooner than she expected... she also had a abnormal pap test and she has this little red rash thing on her face. When she went to the dermatologist, the doctor said it could either be eczema(?spelling) or skin cancer.

What could be wrong with my mom?

There could be many things wrong and then it could be just rash.No one can really tell, only the doctor that gives the test will know.Just be patient and have faith that your mother will come out ok.Good luck to you and your family and keep in touch and tell me what is happening if you dont mind.

She will tell you when she is ready, don't hound her, she has to sort this all out before she tells anyone.....

The doctor will tell her soon enough. It is no use for you to speculate here.

some women are called back in a second time for a mammogram as some small thing is seen on the x-ray=
little red rash can be from stress=abnormal pap test means she might need to have a D&C to clean out the uterous

My aunt had skin cancer and it wasnts like that. So i would bet its the other and they have cream for that. Props 2 you for showing you care about your mom though! hope all is well for you guys!

The mammogram could have shown something that the doctor wants to get another look at. I had this happen a few years ago, and while it was very unsettling, it turned out to be a benign cyst that I had removed.
The abnormal pap test could be many things. The gynocologist should take another look at her.
The rash on her face is probably eczema like the dermatologist said and he can give her some topical ointments for it.

Sounds like you mom had some suspicious spots when they did her mammogram and might have precancer cells on her cervix. Be sure she gets all the proper testing done to get all of this checked out ASAP. Also because your mom has all of these abnormal tests talk to your doc about when he wants you to start getting these tests done as they may want you to start earlier than a normal woman would. For now do your monthly self breast exams and if you find anything abnormal see a doc. I wish you mom the best of luck and hopefully everthing turns out negative for cancer.

Eczema is an allergic condition that affects the skin. Another name for eczema is dermatitis. Dermatitis is inflammation of the skin. There are several different types of dermatitis, but the one people usually mean when they say eczema is atopic dermatitis. Atopic refers to a lifelong tendency to allergic conditions such as asthma and allergic rhinitis (hay fever).
Eczema can be triggered by just about anything coming in contact with the skin. It occurs in atopic people, who are extra sensitive to skin irritation. Dry, flaky skin appears over red, inflamed areas, causing intense itching and burning.
Eczema is a very common condition, and it affects all races and ages, including young infants. About 1-2 percent of adults have eczema, and as many as 20 percent of children are affected. It usually begins early in life, even before asthma or hay fever. Most affected individuals have their first episode before age 5 years.
For some, the disease will improve with time. For others, however, eczema is a chronic or recurrent disorder. Although it can occur just once, it usually occurs on and off throughout life, or lasts the entire lifetime.
Eczema can be a difficult, frustrating condition. The natural human desire to scratch or rub an itchy rash just makes the condition worse, and treatments can be slow and are not always completely effective.

if she has skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. The two most common types are basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer. They usually form on the head, face, neck, hands and arms. Another type of skin cancer, melanoma, is more dangerous but less common.
Anyone can get skin cancer, but it is more common in people who

Spend a lot of time in the sun or have been sunburned
Have light-colored skin, hair and eyes
Have a family member with skin cancer
Are over age 50

You should have your doctor check any suspicious skin markings and any changes in the way your skin looks. Treatment is more likely to work well when cancer is found early. If not treated, some types of skin cancer cells can spread to other tissues and organs.

i hope this helped!

I hate to say this Hon, but when my Mom was called back early, it was because she had breast cancer.
All is not lost - it's not a death sentence like it once was. If caught early your Mom can have treatment and live a long life. My Mom had several reoccurances before it finally came back and spread. She passed away 22 years after being diagnosed. That's a long time and many, many people live longer.
But it could be something like a cyst so don't panic just yet. Your Mom will talk when she is ready to.
Hang in there and give your Mom all the support she needs but try and keep things as normal as possible.
I'll be praying for you.

I guess the mammography was normal but she was recalled for skin problem. Yes, it could be eczema or skin cancer. Skin cancers can be of different types - some are not worrisome and easy cured (basal cell cancer) , some are nasty (melanoma). From your description it appears that she may have less worrisome types, but this can only be confirmed by small biopsy that the doc should do as office procedure and will get result in 2-5 days. Treatment is simple excision/removal of area. She must see her doc to get correct diagnosis. Most skin cancers are related to sunlight exposure and obviously risk increases as we grow old.

when my mom did the mammography she was asked in again. I'm not sure what was wrong but she didn't have breast cancer i think they just needed to check something. Even if she does have breast cancer, we are all here for you.

The doctors just see some test results that they want to keep a closer eye on, shnitle. Nothing to worry about yet, but you can certainly talk with your mom about it and be a comfort to her. Anybody gets concerned when their doctor tells them that there's something that needs to be watched closer.
