Bad results -Thyroid Cancer - Ultra sound?

Okay, First had lump in neck, then felt lump in throat. Had ultrasound. They found a nodule on thyroid a little over 1 cm. They are sending me to an endocrinologist. (spelling?) Anyways,. I have the report of ultrasound. IT said the nodule was hypoechoic, only moderately well defined, Microcalcifications within it are suspected and it has central and peripheral flow. I am so upset. I read all of those things point to malignancy.. Please help me

I am an advanced thyca case but I am not terminal and treatable because I have my age on my side. But some of the answers trying to down play this type of cancer is not right. You need to be educated and learn as much as you can.

Dont worry. Still lot has to be done to rule out malignancy.The doctors might take out little fluid and test it to come to final conclusion.Right now it is looking like Hyperthyroidism case.Hence Thyroid Function test is required.

If it pointed to cancer, they would be sending you to an oncologist. You can have nodules on your thyroid that are not cancerous--in fact they are much more common than cancerous ones. But I bet it is really messing up your thyroid function? Probably hyperthyroid right now? Too fast. Here's some info on them and there are plenty more if you search for thyroid nodules:

Don't panic just yet. My mother in law is going through the same thing. The Doc's will first start you on medication and if the med's do not provide a positive result, then they will proceed with a Biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Thyroid Cancer is treatable and usually with good success. You have a long way to go before you start panicking.

Even if it is thyroid cancer it isn't that big an issue. I'm not trying to minimize because cancer is scary. But if you have to develop cancer, that's the one to get. Very slow growing and easily cured. I know because I had it nearly thirty years ago. They operated on me twice and I went through radiation therapy. Since then I've had to take a small pill (levothyroxine) once a day and get tested every 5 years.

First let me say I've been there......The good thing is that the thyroid is encapsulated, (within it's own capsule ) so spreading is unlikely. If they remove your thyroid, (which they did mine), and give you some radiation, you should be fine....I have been on thyroid replacement hormones for 28 years now. The only problems I have is dry skin, dry hair, and some weight gain....a small price to pay for life...Wait to panic till you speak to the Endocrinologist, it may just be the beginning, and removal may be all they have to do........I hope this helps you a little. My surgery was a piece of cake, because they don't have to cut through any muscle to get to your thyroid, healed in a couple of weeks, scar is so minimal it doesn't even show...............

dont panic, it might not be cancer and even if it is thyroid cancer thyroid cancer is one of the better cancers to get if you have to get one. most forms of thyroid cancer have pretty high survival rates and the only long term repurcussion is that you have to take a synthroid tablet once a day for the rest of your life to replace the hormone (which is dirt cheap, generic is only $4 per month at walmart/target and shouldnt give you any side effects)

An I131 uptake study to evaluate function would help rule out cancer. If it is a cold nodule a biopsy might be required.
