Should ca-125 be within normal range (<35) to indicate a healthy person or should it be zero?

what does the value for ca-125(ovarian cancer test ) in between 0 and 35 indicate ? is it better if it is zero or its just normal till below 35? if it was 9.6 some months ago and if it is now 12 ,does it indicate that malignancy has increased?

you have had ovarian cancer and your ca124 was 9 a few months ago but has increased to 12? its inching upward and i think the dr will watch it closely, but the lower it is the better.
try not to stress too much about it mine went from 13 to 14 in three weeks and it meant nothing cause the next ca125 three weeks later was 9,6. all this was DURING chemo.
are you in treatment now or are you finished ?.
Good Luck

This protein tumor marker is produced by some healthy cells, as well as by the tumor cells.
Thus, it may not be zero, while you may be completely healthy.
A rise in this tumor marker may be caused by other health problems not related to ovarian cancer, however, a steady increase in its level merits a thorough medical investigation, since ovarian cancer in many cases is detected when it is too late for cure.
Please also note that the accuracy of the test may not be too high (so that if you do it twice on the same day, or in two different laboratories - you may receive slightly different results).
