Is anyone framiliar with Group G Strep?

Twice in the past year my throat cultures have come back with moderate group G Strep growth. After trying to research this online I have discovered a lack of information. THe few articals I have found state that 65% of the people who have this infection have some type of underlying malignancy. I am meeting with an ENT in a few weeks, but I want as much information as possible before I see him. Thanks for your help!

The "malignancy" percentage you have listed is inaccurate. A rating of around 35% is far more representative and reliable. My first question would be regarding your age--if you aren't of middle age (45-60), I seriously doubt that malignancy is the underlying cause of your reinfection. The median age for most cases is a whopping 62--meaning that generally Group G strep is usually related more with a breakdown of the immune system than anything else.

There are other feasible possibilities other than malignancy, however: alcoholism, diabetes mellitus, RA, IV substance abuse, and skin problems are all common subfactors contributing to GGS occurances. If you are young and sexually active, there is a remote chance that you had somehow managed to unluckily contract it from a sex partner during oral.

All in all, I'm not really sure how worried you are about this, but I think that the odds of something serious coming from it are pretty remote. Just relax, and let your ENT advise you.

nope sorry

Tell your ENT what you read/heard. Knowing your source is important as well. Not everything on the internet is fact.
