I had my pap smear and it came back abnormal, the nurse that called me said i am diagnosed as having HPV.? |
i was told that my pap was abnormal and i also have to go back for another test, but the nurse i spoke with told me there were no cancerous cells on the slide and also that there were no signs of malignancy but as for right now until i have this test i am diagnosed with having HPV. which is the virus that causes genital warts. im on birth control and she said that it may just be my cervix being irrritated, at this time im not sexually active. ( haven't been for 6 months), i also had a staph infection in march could it be something else other than an std? HPV is VERY VERY VERY common. It's so common in fact that dogs get it. Every person on this planet will get HPV at one time or another...it just all depends on what kind of strand it is...most people get it but their body treats it like a virus (like it would a cold) and get rid of it. There are hundreds of strains of HPV but only a very slight few (few meaning maybe 3) cause cancer and only 2 of them cause gentile warts. It is also VERY VERY rare that a man will develop cancer from HPV. No,it is sexually related. You can google up HPV and read up on it.My friends friend has it and it did turn to irreversable cancer so please look into it asap. when you have sex with someone, you are essentially sleeping with everyone who has slept with them. This is not something that happens overnight. Also, a woman who has had more than 5 sexual partners is at more risk for HPV, which can lead to cervical cancer. I worked in the medical field for over 15 years. Using condoms even though on birth control can help to not pass this on. while you do not have a malignancy now, you need to have this watched very carefully. I had this same diagnosis a couple of years ago. After the abnormal pap smear, I went back for a biopsy which showed abnormal cells - but no cancer. My dr. recommended I have cryosurgery. An instrument is inserted next to the cervix and it freezes the abnormal cells. These cells then "thaw" out and drain from your body. I had to have a pap smear once every 3 months for a year, then every 6 months for the second year, and they've all been normal. Now I have one once a year - and so far no further problems. |
